During my trip to Spain in 2023, I had the chance to spend a few weeks in Alhama de Granada in Andalusia. Throughout my stay, I immersed myself in the area and was fortunate to be there during Holy Week, allowing me to witness and document one of the most important events—the Viernes de Dolores—in the town of Alhama de Granada.
In Alhama de Granada, during Viernes de Dolores, there’s a special procession where they carry their patron saint, the Virgen de las Angustias. Despite not being religious myself, witnessing this tradition was a beautiful experience. The town comes together, and the atmosphere is unique as they carefully carry the Virgen de las Angustias through the streets. The tradition is not solely about religion; it also serves to connect people and share their cultural history.
